Finally, a Comment

Well, I just got off the phone with Tim Burnett, Opinions Editor at the Daily. Even though it took some time to actually get him on the phone, (nine days, three phone calls, two e-mails, and one website), I was, overall, pleased with Tim's willingness to listen. We talked about this study and what findings I had, and he said that, while he couldn't believe that as many opinion pieces were Neutral that pegged as Neutral, he'd be taking a look at the results to see if there is an imbalance that needs correcting.

The main point I took from the conversation is this: there are not enough conservative students voicing their opinion in the form of letters to the editor and opinion column submissions. While some students may write in constantly (e.g., more than once a week), the Daily will probably not publish some random students opinion more often than their own paid columnists' (once every two weeks), which is a reasonable stance. So if you keep thinking, "I should write a letter," but never do, now is the time.
